Cirque du Soleil has always been intriguing to me. I heard about the production years before I ever attended my first show from a well-traveled friend that couldn’t seem to get enough. I made up my mind that I would make an effort to attend. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to see “O” in Las Vegas and Ovo a few years after that.

But tonight was all about Cirque du Soleil’s VOLTA at Tyson’s Corner II, not too far from Washington DC. Cirque du Soleil started with 74 employees near Quebec City, Canada in 1984. Today, the company hires near 4,000 and has 19 shows all over the world. VOLTA is one of those shows currently playing in the DC metro area and is a great activity if you’re looking for late summer entertainment. And thanks to Cirque du Soleil, my family and I got to add show number three of the Cirque du Soleil suite to our collection of treasured memories. VOLTA is a story of transformation, self-realization and authenticity as seen through the eyes of a young man that seemed to have lost his way.
When watching Cirque du Soleil’s VOLTA, you’ll unwrap these themes:
Street Sports
Street sports like BMX biking and Double Dutch will marvel audiences. This is not the Double Dutch that I watched my friends playing as a kid growing up though. It’s way cooler. And the biking was the heart racing and exhilarating kind that makes you sit at the very edge of your seat.
Authenticity
Authenticity was by far my favorite theme while watching VOLTA. Audiences will watch as a young man is transformed as he heeds to the call and embraces his uniqueness in the world, which allows him to live more authentically. It’s a theme that resonates with me and one that I teach my kids the importance of everyday.
The Mr. WOW Show
The kids literally laughed out loud whenever Mr. WOW came on stage and I couldn’t blame them. Watching Mr. WOW during VOLTA is like watching a show within a show, with his perfectly coiffed hair and polished looks. Everyone will be entertained. Actually, watching Mr. WOW was another big highlight of the show for me too.
If you’d like to go with your friends or family to see Cirque de Soleil’s Volta, here’s some more details about the show.

Hair Suspension
I’m not going to give it all away but let’s just say that someone has some serious neck strength…and it’s not me.

If you’ve never been to a Cirque Du Soleil show, now is a good time to start.
Going to see VOLTA is a great way to end summer on a high note. Also, how many times are you going to go the movies and the water park? It’s time to change things up. Although, if you’re going with your kids and your kids are anything like mine… they’ll ask to come back.
That’s exactly what my Sun Ray was asking me in this photo right after the show was over. He really enjoyed the show and was quite disappointed that it was over.

GO!
But, VOLTA is not a show that’s just for kids. This show could just as easily be a mom’s night out or a great date night. As a matter of fact, right across the street from the big top is Founding Farmers if you want to make this dinner and a show.

You can buy tickets here. Also feel free to explore VIP, family and group tickets to meet your needs.

After tonight, I’m definitely interested to see anther Cirque Du Soleil show when we go to Las Vegas next month.
