Looking for a birthday gift for your mom? Well, I have some news for you. Some of the best birthday gifts for mom can’t be wrapped. Read on and I’ll tell you more.
First a little background without putting all my business on the Internet, while proceeding to put my business on the Internet…
My family came to America’s paradise when I was just a “little brown baby doll”. The idea was of course, to move to America for better opportunities and so that we could grow up as American citizens. Fortunately for my siblings and I, that didn’t mean moving away from the island way of life.
Of course like many moms, my mom wanted us to get a great education and be afforded other opportunities that she didn’t have. I got the education and more. In many ways, I am living the “American Dream”.
So here we are many years later and my mom is still living that island life. That means that I get to see her a measly 1-2 times a year. In 2020, the one to two reunions that we typically have, didn’t happen. I’m sure you know why.
But this past February, my family packed our bags, gave our immune systems a boost (making sure she was doing the same) and flew down for a surprise visit.
The Gift of Personal Presence
This type of gift, is not going to mean much to you if your mom lives in your state, hometown or if you get to see your mom on every major holiday. But when you’re like me and have to hop on two planes to get that personal connection, the gift of personal presence is golden.
So earlier this year, we hopped on a plane and made that connection happen. I hadn’t seen my mom in over a year.
Best of all, it was a surprise visit!
There were tears, smiles and huge embraces. The kind of embraces where you don’t want to let go.
So here’s what I’ll say, if you haven’t seen your mom in a bit and you’re trying to figure out what to get her for her birthday, chances are that she’d appreciate a visit.
So stop with the excuses and get your coins together. Your mom needs to see your face in person.
The Gift of Experience
When I was graduating from high school my mom sacrificed so that I could go on a cruise vacation with my friends. I was 18, the cruise was expensive and she had never been on a cruise herself (at that time).
That’s what moms do.
They give their last even, though it means that they may go without.
I don’t have life all together. But when I can, I try to gift my mom the gift of experience. You should try it too. You may be thinking about massages, and spa appointments but, those are expected. Especially if she gets them all the time. So if and when you can, gift the gift of “first experience”.
A few years ago, I got to take my mom on her first trip New York and to see her first Broadway show. We had the most magical time.
Give the Gift of Good Health
In many ways this gift should have been first on the list because it, your mom won’t be able to do anything else without good health. Here are some of the ways that you can your mom and her health back on track.
Keep her blood sugar balanced:
Eat Well Be Well
Over 34 million people have been diagnosed with diabetes. The majority of populations affected are non Hispanic Blacks and people over the age of 45. The first thing to do to keep blood sugar under control is to tackle the diet. While I can’t get into the full scope of what type of diet is considered blood sugar is balanced here, I will say that cookies, cakes, pasta, rice (as well as other grains), and daily fruit smoothies isn’t it.
I was appalled (on a recent trip to the grocery store), when I saw the kinds of recipes that was being marketed in a magazine to people with diabetes.
If you’re trying to make a healthy change for yourself or your mom, here are a few recipes that will help keep that blood sugar in check.
Chia Pudding (topped with fresh berries-blueberries, raspberries or blackberries)
Another way to help mom keep her health and blood sugar in check is with RidgeCrest Herbal’s Blood Sugar Balance. As with other RidgeCrest products, the formula is non- GMO, soy free, gluten free, corn free, nut free and vegetarian. Remember that herbal products don’t work the same way on everyone, you should consult your health care provider before adjusting your health care regimen. In addition, supplements don’t negate anyone’s responsibility of doing the work and eating right to get healthy.
Move to Groove
Help momma get her groove on by encouraging her to exercise. Now, exercising looks different for everybody. It could be taking a brisk walk, going skating a couple times week, swimming, joining a gym and so on.
So if you don’t yet know what to buy for your mom this birthday remember that you can’t go wrong with the gift of personal presence, the gift of new experience, and the gift of health.
Gifting a gym membership where your mom can pick a variety of classes and have options to get her heart pumping is a great idea. Another great gifting idea is swimming lessons (if she doesn’t know how to swim). That way, you get to bundle a new experience, exercise and a life saving skill all in one.
There’s a popular saying that goes, “The best things in life are free”.
The best gifts in life can’t be wrapped.
Happy Birthday Mom!
