We all have to eat right? Then you’ve got to make it good. So when I’m on vacay mode, I ‘m talking to the locals, doing online searches and using apps like Yelp to help me figure out where to eat. Our recent trip to Carlsbad was no different. So when we were ready to eat breakfast, all signs pointed to Beach Plum Kitchen.
Now let’s talk about the kitchen. Oh my! There were wonderful things happening in the kitchen. One visit to Beach Plum Kitchen sadly leaves me wanting more, which is two plane rides and two time zones away.
When you come to the kitchen, you just have to do things right. For us that meant ordering a family style breakfast from their breakfast/lunch menu.
It all happened so deliciously fast before there was any evidence left of the breakfast that had no chance for victory. The lemon ricotta pancakes came dressed in bellows of ricotta cheese on top and dusted with powdered sugar. Of course pairing each bite of those hot cakes with the accompanying blueberries is a must.
The migas, which are eggs, onions, tortillas, chorizo and garlic married into one dish, had me longing for a little sour cream to cool things down. But I’ll be honest, I’m no spicy food fanatic. A little goes a long way for these taste buds.
Our bread was served with strawberry basil jelly, which was so divine. That really reminded me of this strawberry basil dessert topping and why those flavors are such a great match.
We also ordered bacon, quinoa and coconut porridge and an omelette that my groom devoured so quickly, I only got one bite. But, take my word for it that everything was good. I’m definitely going back.
Have you had anything good to eat lately? I want to know about your “must try” breakfast spots. I’m always on the prowl.
