The only thing better than dessert is having a festive and light dessert that you don’t have to feel guilty about eating. Try this easy 4th of July fruit salad at your next summer event. It has juicy summer fruits like fresh berries, watermelon, lemon and pineapple. 

When to Make This Patriotic Fruit Salad Recipe 

The delicious salad is perfect for summer holidays and occasions. It makes a great side dish on a hot summer day. Try making this recipe on occasions like Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day or summer barbecues.  

Tools Needed

​large bowl 

small star cookie cutters 

sharp knife 

watermelon baller (optional) 

Ingredients 

  • ​fresh blueberries 
  • strawberries 
  • raspberries 
  • pineapple 
  • lemon juice 
  • honey (raw local honey is preferred)
  • optional: fresh mint or basil to garnish

Instructions 

Step 1: Start by thoroughly washing the blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. Wipe gently with a paper towel and set aside. 

Step 2: Slice whole pineapple into thick slices, removing the peel and cutting out star shapes for a festive touch. 

Step 3: Cut the watermelon into cubes or use a melon baller (if you prefer) to shape it into balls. 

Step 4: In a separate bowl, mix together the lemon juice and honey. 

Step 5: Stir well until the honey is fully dissolved into the lemon juice. Pour the liquid over the fruits in the large bowl. 

Step 6: Toss everything together, making sure the lemon-honey mixture coats the fruit evenly. 

Step 7: Let the salad sit in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes to let the flavors come together. 

Step 8: Serve the fruit salad, topped with star-shaped pineapple slices with fresh mint or basil. 

Storage 

​Store any leftover fruit salad in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for 3-5 days. 

Tips and Tricks

  • Can use a melon baller to shape melon and get extra fancy. 
  • Garnish with fresh basil or mint. 
  • Use a smaller sized star cookie cutter to get more out of each pineapple round. Note: You may get some pineapple core in each cut.
