Chicken of the Sea has a new product and they let me try it! It’s Chicken of the Sea No Drain Tuna. While I can’t say that draining a can of tuna is that cumbersome for me, it was great not to have to do it this time around. We always have tuna in our pantry. It is our “go to” pantry stable food. You never know when you are going to have to open a can or two.
They have two varieties: Solid White Albacore and Light Lemon/Pepper Tuna. I tried the Light Lemon Pepper Tuna variety. Surprise, surprise. There was no water in the can. Just a little moisture that kept the tuna really moist.
While there are tons of great recipes available for the no drain tuna. I decided to do my own thing.
Open-Face Old Bay Tuna Sandwich
1 (8oz) can Lemon/Pepper No Drain Tuna
2 slices Ezekiel bread
1 fistful Alfalfa sprouts
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 tsp Old Bay seasoning
Sliced tomatoes for garnish
Add olive oil and old bay to tuna and incorporate well.
Arrange sprouts on lightly toasted bread
Add tuna and garnish with fresh tomatoes
Cooks note: I added a little fresh cracked pepper on the tomatoes because I wanted an extra kick. But, not necessarily needed since this is Lemon Pepper Tuna.
Final thoughts: Overall, I do prefer to add my own fresh lemon to my tuna and pepper but, if you are looking to save some time on your healthy eating, this product is worth a try. Of course you do save some time since this is Chicken of the Sea No Drain Tuna and there is no mess from draining. Sweet!
