I am having such a good time with this series. Getting in touch with moms about well…being moms. Actually, the first post in our Mom Style series “First Time Expectant Mom”, did so well I am wondering why it took me 2 years to go from concept to execution. But I digress…
Today, I am talking to Christy.
Read on to see what Christy had to say about being a mom of one.
Q: What’s one thing you wished someone had told you about this beautiful yet ever changing journey?
A: Not everything will go according to plan.” I guess in a way I already knew this. Just like anything else in life…not everything goes according to plan. The one thing that I had my heart set on was breastfeeding. Unfortunately, it just did not work out for us. I gave it my all, but we always had to supplement. I was devastated! I couldn’t figure out why something that is so natural could be so hard, I truly thought that I was doing something wrong (even though there were multiple visits to the lactation consultant.) After trying our best for a long time, it clicked with me… I still had a happy and healthy little one and that’s what truly mattered. Not everything will go exactly how we want it too, but we just have to go with the flow, trust our gut and do the best we can.
Q: Who is your favorite TV mom?
A My favorite TV mom is Caroline Ingalls from “The Little House on the Prairie.” I love how loving, nurturing and caring she is with her family and those around her. At the same time she is determined, stubborned and strong willed. Caroline always seems to stay cool, calm and collective. She can so easily help others and then turn around and stand up to those who are in the wrong. Somehow she manages a whole household plus work, all with a good sense of humor….. the ultimate supermom!
Q: How old is your child?
A: She will be 2 in September (I still can’t believe it)
Q: What’s it like being a mom of one child? What should other mamas know?
A: Being a mom can create a struggle when it comes to balancing “mommyhood” & work. Especially when your child is younger… They grow so fast & there schedules change before you know it that it’s hard to have a set schedule for yourself. I’m lucky enough to be a Stay at home Mom & a Work at home Mom, which is wonderful but is especially hard to get things done when I just want to play with my little one. My best piece of advice for moms-to-be is to take any free moments to do something for yourself (work, relax…take a nap once in awhile) but also take time to really capture & enjoy the moments of your little one while they are still little (playing with them & having a video camera near by helps!). I also like to include my little one whenever I can (she loves doing workouts with me…aka: laying on mommy which makes for a harder workout.) Finding a good balance can be hard & you may feel like you never really find one since things are constantly changing. Just try your best and enjoy because they grow so fast.
Q: What is your favorite activity to do with your child? Why?
A: Snuggling! With an active toddler running around, snuggles does not happen that often…so I take them any chance I get.
Q: If your “Mom Style” was a song title, what would it be? (No, seriously I need a real song)
A: “Everything” by Michael Bublé
Q: Which blog post that you are most proud of.
A: An End to Body Image Fads
Q: What’s your “Mom Style”? Cool & Calm, Spirited & Free, Savvy & Sophisticated or “Type A” All the Way
A: Cool and calm
Q: As a mom, what do you know for sure?
A: Nothing! haha ….Kids are constantly changing. Their likes/dislikes, schedules..pretty much everything. Just when you think you have them figured out… BOOM, everything changes. I’ve really learned to just go with the flow and enjoy the moments.
In the land of motherhood, Christy is bringing her cool and calm being to the mommy community and we welcome her with our arms wide open.
Thanks for taking the time to chat Christy!

Always interesting finding out more about other bloggers! I’m a mom of five, so I’d have to say at this point my mom style is “practical” and “a bit frazzled”. 🙂 Thanks for linking up to Motivational Monday!

I think all of us are in that “frazzled” space at some time or another

Lovely post! It’s great to ‘meet’ Christy and discover her blog. So much of what she said resonated with me. I am a mom of one too – although my one is now 21 🙂 Thank you for sharing this post with us at the Hearth and Soul hop.
