Do you have any recent family photos? I don’t mean the ones of just the kids, or the ones that Aunt Pam snapped at the family family reunion three years ago. I mean your husband, the kids and you. You must have heard it time and time again, it’s wise to capture those precious memories now because before you know it, your kids will be having kids of their own. But, how do you find a good family photographer?
If your answer has anything to do with who is offering a deal on LivingSocial then you have it wrong. Not that I have anything against LivingSocial, because you can find good photographers there. This just shouldn’t be your primary mode of selection.
Here are Some Tips on How to Pick a Family Photographer
Ask Your Friends
Your friends. Remember the folks that you used to spend so much time with before you had kids? But now every time you talk or text you say, “We have to get together”. Those folks. You trust them right? Especially if they have kids too, your friends are a gold mine when it comes to recommendations for a family photographer.
But don’t stop there. Your friend’s friends are a great source of information too.
Use Reviews
Reviews are gifts from friends you didn’t know you had. I like using sources like Yelp to get candid reviews to help guide buying decisions especially when it comes to hiring a family photographer. You just don’t want anyone around your kids.
Hire the Right Type of Photographer
If you wanted pictures of your newborn, then you wouldn’t seek out an action photographer from a local sports team. In the same token, hiring a “family” photographer implies that the photographer has a certain comfort level with children. Make sure that the photographer is in tune with your rhythm and that of your family. They have to be in “tune” with you.
Scroll Through Instagram
You read correctly. If you’re looking for a good family photographer then just take a good look through your Instagram feed. Your friends, acquaintances and people you don’t know are tagging their favorite photographers in their Instagram photos. It’s super easy to follow the tag and get the information you need and make the connection so their photographer, can become your new photographer.
Check your Blogroll
Your favorite bloggers (ahem) often work with local photographers to capture Instagram worthy and lifestyle moments for their sites. I recently collaborated with Rachel from Rachel K Photos to capture these tender moments, one day before our son’s third birthday.
My mom was also in town at the time and I’m so happy that we convinced her to jump in a few photos as well.
Not only am I loving our new family photos but, Rachel has agreed to offer one free family session to one Domestic Life Stylist reader as well.
So, if you live in the Washington DC metro area or will be visiting soon and were thinking about getting some family photos this is for you.
Just make sure that you’re an email subscriber.
One winner will receive
- 1 hour complimentary family session
- 25-50 high resolution images
But what if I don’t win?
If you don’t win the giveaway you still “win” because Rachel is also offering a $50 discount to any readers that mention “the Domestic Life Stylist“, off the cost of their family session. This discount is valid for 60 days from the day of publish of this post (9/19/16).
