Has fall hit you yet or are you still in denial? Fall is officially here and will be sticking around for a while so you might as well get used to it. For some, fall is a time of awakening and a favorite time of year. For others, the beginning of autumn is a reminder that a cold and dreary winter is not too far behind.

No matter what group you’re in, fall is special and a great time for family fun. Even if you are a fall Grinch, here are some easy ways to get your family in the fall spirit.

Start a Fall Garden

Fall is a great time to give gardening a try even if you haven’t had one before. Starting a family garden with just a few items is better than having no garden at all. Veggies like kale, broccoli and beets are just perfect for the crisp fall air.

Go Apple Picking

Apple picking is the quintessential fall acitivity. Do a quick good Google search and find the nearest apple orchard near you. Plan to use your fall apple harvest to make things like apple butter, homemade apple sauce and cinnamon baked apples to help everyone get in the fall spirit. You can even try a sweet and savory dish like this sausage and apple stuffed pork chops for a tasty meal that’s full of flavor.

Homemade apple butter tastes great in these grilled almond and apple butter banana sandwiches.

Drive to See the Fall Foliage

The most beautiful thing about fall is viewing the magnificent fall foliage. If you don’t know where to go the Foliage Report is a great source of foliage information that is broken up into the different parts of the United States. Currently, new reports are posted on Mondays and Thursdays.

Pick Some Pumpkins

Everywhere you turn, there is a wide variety of fall festivals, patches and farms to choose from. Get your kids in on the fun and have them each pick a pumpkin during one of your visits. Be on the look out for all sorts of pumpkins. On our recent visit to a nearby nursery, we saw these bumpy and rather unique pumpkins that caught out eye.

Try a New Fall Recipe

Besides unique and easy pumpkin recipes, be sure to try other fall recipes as well. Dishes like butternut squash bisque and lentil, kale and sausage soup are a real hit during the cool weather months.

Buy Some Mums

Mums are so beautiful and they come in an assortment of colors. Flowers are one of the easiest and quickest ways to add personality, style and spirit to a space.

Buy a bunch or two and see what they do for you.

Embrace Fall Scents

Some of my personal favorite fall fragrances are apple, citrus and cinnamon. But, don’t limit yourself to those scents. Try buying air fresheners and candles in scents like vanilla bourbon, sugar and spice and even candy corn. They will surely bring some smiles and some fall spirit to your family and your space.

Fun ideas! I definitely want to get some mums for our front porch once the weather cools a little more. And a family trip to the pumpkin patch with our new little son is on my Autumn Bucket List! 🙂

Normally Fall is a bit depressing in the UK with lots of rain and clouds but this year we’ve had lots of lovely sunshine so it has been great. Love your ideas for really enjoying the season, Lisa! Sharing this post and I’ll be including it in the Hearth and Soul features next week. Thank you so much for being a part of the Hearth and Soul Hop.
