How to Get Ready for the Arrival of a New Baby

I have been more quiet than usual around here lately. And it’s for a good reason. The months are turning into weeks on me and I am now in “full nesting mode”.

Our sweet new baby is going to here soon and there is tremendous joy in that. This pregnancy is vastly different from the last one and all I can say is thank you Lord!

Here is what we are doing get ready.

Tips on how to get ready for the arrival of a new baby

Get New Furniture

We got baby girl her first big girl bed last week  and transferred her toddler bed back to a crib…all tear free! Think about getting other pieces of furniture that you may need including a crib, new beds and dressers/drawers or storage units during this time of transition.

Wash Baby Clothes

Washing baby “boy” clothing using ALL free and clear detergent. We used Dreft the last time. But, the ALL is more affordable and seems to do the job.

Organize Baby Clothes

Organizing the baby’s clothes in Ziploc Space bags, bins and putting some things away in the new drawers, helps to keep things sorted and easy to find.

Finish Any Baby Reading

Reading On Becoming Baby Wise: Giving Your Infant the GIFT of Nighttime Sleep
for the first time.  I read Happiest Baby on the Block last time. Let’s see if Babywise will help me get some sleep. If you wait until the baby arrives, you probably will never get all the reading done.

Create a Meal Plan

Solidifying some meal plans for solid rotation after baby’s arrival. Once the baby is born is not the time to reinvent the “meal planning” wheel.

Pack a Hospital Bag

Starting to pack that dreaded hospital bag…well…at least mentally.

Spend Sometime with the Kids

Spending as much time uninterrupted with “baby girl”as I can. I know that my life is the not the only one that will change dramatically.

Take a ‘Momcation’

Spending as much time alone as life will allow. Whether it be getting my nails done, reading a book or a recent momcation to the Disney Social Media conference last week. I am taking advantage of every moment!

What are some things that you did to get ready for your new baby’s arrival?

I went crazy getting ready for #3’s recent arrival. And actually, I was crazy getting ready for #2’s arrival too. Strangely it was #1 that I was most chill about. 🙂 I did most of those things, but I particularly love your momcation idea. Any alone time you can get, take it! 🙂

You know what Erica? Oddly enough that’s what happened for me too. I was chill for #1. Then again…I had no choice. I was in the hospital on bedrest. One of the things I learned with #1 though was to take time for myself early on. So, experince is a great teacher. 🙂

I agree! Spend plenty of time by yourself and get lots of sleep while you still can. I love your tip about meal planning! I always make 2 weeks of freezer meals before hand so I don’t have to cook a thing. And if you know a women who is pregnant you can help her by coordinating some ladies to bring her meals with takethemameal.com. I’ve done it for other moms and people have done it for me. It is awesome not to have to think about making meals! Thanks so much for sharing. Hope to see you at True Aim!

Tulip, I have used a similar service called “Meal Train” with fellow mamas. The more the merrier. I’ll have to check out the site you mentioned as well. As much as I love to cook, you are right…making those meals especially when sleep deprived can be such a drag.

You look so beautiful! 🙂 Oh how I remember my “nesting” and to do list frenzy, I was up taking care of things the night before she came…I had a feeling she was going to make her debut either that night or morning…so I had to get it done! Congrats again, praying for you 🙂

I remember before each of my babies arrived, there always seemed to be so much to do and prepare. I definitely like the ‘momcation’ idea- that would’ve been great:)

Wendy, you know what? I did not realize how badly I needed one until I got one. Now, I may have to start to schedule them at least once a year. 🙂

This is a great post!!! I wish I had done a number of these things when I was pregnant with my son 11 years ago. These tips will help a lot of moms who are preparing for a new baby and already have some kids.

Congratulations on baby #2! I love the idea of a momcation. If I ever have a baby #3, I am going to be all over that one 🙂

I feel a lot more relaxed about getting ready for #2 than I was with my first. I’ve still got to get some of my birthing supplies together, and wash baby clothes. I’m also trying to get as much freezer cooking done as I can… and cuddling my toddler every chance I get. 🙂

Yes Elise! I think we are in sync with that. I am also trying to spend a lot of time with my pumpkin. I’ve still got some washing to do. But, I am at ease. Thank you for stopping by.
