Road trips are usually not my favorite things. Don’t get me wrong, I love to travel. It’s extended periods in the car that I don’t particularly like. Blame it on the fact that I grew up on an island that is just 32 square miles. Usually anything over four hours means that we’re ringing up miles. But, I’ve learned to be a little more relaxed with those travel rules. Mainly, it had something to do with going from paying for two tickets to paying for four airline tickets when we go on a family trip.
Additionally, let’s be honest…sometimes a road trip is simply more convenient.
Fortunately, living in the Washington DC area means that we have a ton of options for family road trips in every direction. One of those options brought us to Hotel Indigo Long Island East End. Depending on the time of day you’re driving or day of the week, driving to Long Island from the DC area can take anywhere from 4 to 6.5 hours. Having some flexibility in your travel plans will go a long way and save time.
But once you’ve arrived at Hotel Indigo Long Island, I’m sure you’ll agree that’s it’s the perfect spot for a family weekend getaway. Here’s why:
Chic & Modern Decor
From the front desk to the banquet area and restaurants, the hotel is full of modern touches. Hotel Indigos all over the world are renowned for meticulously intertwining with the culture of the areas they call home. Hotel Indigo Long Island East End is no different. Throughout this property, local art decorates the corridors for a cohesive neighborhood feel.
Close to Shopping
Hotel Indigo East End is less than 5 minutes from the Tanger Outlets. This means family time and shopping all in the same trip. It’s a win, win for everyone. Hotel shuttles are also available for guest use.
Heated Salt Water Pool
Not only does the hotel have a seasonable pool, but it’s a heated salt water pool. No tip toeing in frigid water when it comes time for a swim. Plus, chlorinated water tends to be overly drying to skin and hair anyway. A dip in the typical pool is usually followed by a few rounds of TLC. Salt water is more gentle and soothing on skin.
Close Proximity to Beaches
Are you craving some time on the beach? Hotel Indigo is located near several fine beaches on the East End. Going to the beach is always a great idea for Memorial Day. And remember, if you plan on heading to the beach, don’t forget to pack my fun beach playlist.
Active Adventure Awaits
If you’re active and looking for some outdoor exercise and fun, there are bikes available for free guest use. Nearby nature trails, kayaking and a rich downtown life are also fun to explore.
Wine & Dine
Many East Coasters think that they have to go Napa or Sonoma Valley to visit vineyards and wineries. But that’s not the case. New York state is home to several wineries. One of these wineries is Ospreys Dominion Vineyards. There are picnic spots, an open play area and of course a fair share of wine.
Check out the video below to get a sneak peak.
The Riverhead Ciderhouse is a nearby restaurant in the area, particularly known for their hard cider and cider flights.
Don’t miss out on the fresh guacamole either. It’s made right in front you and is so delicious.
Once you see the vintage red truck, you’ll know that you’re in the right place.
Family Fun
Just nine minutes from Hotel Indigo is the Long Island Aquarium complete with a butterfly garden, some friendly primates and of course a dolphin show to round out the fun.
During our stay, we also visited Garden of Eve Farm and Market, where we took a tractor ride, watched animals, ogled at some beautiful pansies and the kids participated in some healthy outdoor play.
Hotel Indigo also has monthly themes such as “Roses in the Garden”, “Steaks and Cigars” and a “Classic Car Show”.
To my delight, on the day of our check out, we got to see some of the cars at the car show first hand. One of the owners of the car, even let my kids sit in it and pretend to drive. You can barely see their heads over the steering wheel.
Pet Friendly
Not to be left out, since Hotel Indigo is pet friendly, not only will your kids and loved ones enjoy their stay, but so will your furry little friends too.
So if you’re looking for a pet friendly hotel on the east coast for a family friendly or girls’ getaway trip, the Hotel Indigo Long Island East End is a great spot to explore. Memorial Day is right around the corner. Did someone say, road trip?
Now all that’s left to do is make a photo book to capture all those beautiful memories.
