There are a few healthy trends that you just have to know about. These are beyond the basic, “diet and exercise stuff”, and they really have the potential to shake up everything you know about self care. Traditional medicine while good, is not all there is to health and well being. There’s more. There is always more. So if putting yourself back on the list is a priority then, keep reading.

Alkanize Your Body

Yes, this is totally a “thing”. And once you read up more about it, this could be a game changer. Basically the human body is supposed to be in an alkaline (above a pH of 7) state. But everything from diet to physical stress can create an acidic environment. Supporters believe that maintaining a slightly alkaline body can be beneficial in everything from aging to cancer.

Putting on my geek hat now…There are chemical, enzyme and repair mechanisms that in order to take place effectively, require a basic environment down to a cellular level.

What can you do?

Be aware of acidic foods and basic foods and pay attention to how you feel, look and act when you eat them.

Research

If you want to find more about the benefits of alkanizing your body, this book is a great place to start.

Act

Start alkanizing your body right now, by having a glass of lemon water. Yes, lemons are acidic. That’s true but inside the body the effects of lemon are alkanizing.

Chromatherapy

Have you ever noticed that what colors you wear somehow ties into your mood? Well that’s the premise behind Chromatherapy. Chromatherapy or colored light therapy is tied to Ayurvedic medicine and one of the hottest new trends in the home spa industry. Similar to acupuncture that uses different pressure points, colors are used at different intensities to get a specific therapeutic response.

This is such a hot health trend that chromatherapy treatments are popping up at spas all over the country.

Research

According to a spa industry insider, Chromatherapy is on the cutting edge of the spa and health industry right now. Learn more about by reading Color Medicine.

Act

OK, it’s not the same but… get immersed in a world of color and relaxation with adult coloring books. Judging by the reviews on Amazon, Zing coloring books seem to be the way to go.

Grounding

feet in the sand

Out of all the health trends that you’ll want to try this year, this is the one that sounds most like science fiction. But, it’s not. Earthing or grounding is the practice of walking, sitting or harvesting electrical energy from the earth for healing or restorative purpose.

Huh?

Yes.

Basically, the earth is electrically charged and the transfer of those electrons to living things is in essence…good.

Wait. How do you do it?

You walk outside barefoot or buy earthing conductors from several reputable retailers around. Everything from reduced pain to better sleep has been attributed to grounding. I’ve been earthing for over 2 weeks now, and I can tell a difference in my quality of sleep.

Research

If you’re the type that likes to read then this book is a good place to start.

Act

Just walk outside (bare feet), and put your feet on the earth. It can’t be asphalt or tile. But sand is great and highly conductive. If you live in a warm climate, then you’ve hit the jackpot.

But if you’re an island transplant like me or the idea of parasites and crawly things freaks you out then, earthing gear like sheets, pillow cases and mats will work just fine.

Have you tried any of these health trends? If not, which one do you think you’ll try?

The earthing sounds interesting. Being from the “country” I guess I’ve done that without thinking about it…lol. I just remember it felt good. Maybe I should start back up!

So simple yet, such a powerful sentiment. Our body always knows what’s best.
