You know what I love? Smoothies. They’re quick. Delicious and so filling. Combining different ingredients and whipping them up in a blender is such a magical thing. I was with the kiddies one day and decided to make a smoothie. I was initially going to make my favorite kale berry smoothie but decided to try something different. What I came up with was this green pea smoothie with blueberries.
Have you ever had peas in a smoothie? Does is sound disgusting? Not so fast. Many vegan protein powders are pea protein based. So if you’ve ever had vegan protein powder or purchased a smoothie from a smoothie shop, you just may have had some. Although most vegan protein powders include yellow and green split peas, this pea blueberry skin brightening smoothie uses sweet green peas along with wild blueberries, coconut milk, coconut water, bananas and skin firming bone broth powder.
The blueberries are of course packed with antioxidants, coconut water with electrolytes, coconut milk has healthy fats that are great for skin health and one cup of green peas contains a whopping 58mg of vitamin C. That’s more vitamin C than one small orange. Vitamin C plays a major role in collagen production and hence is a common ingredient in skin care products. But don’t worry though, you don’t have to know any of that to enjoy the smoothie.
It just tastes so good. When you give your body the right tools to do the job, it just can’t help but give you more of what you want. This sweet pea blueberry smoothie is dairy free, gluten free, nut free and sugar free too. Allergens are out and flavor is in. Smoothies make a great in between meal snack and because of the protein from the peas and bone broth powder, a great meal replacement too.
