I did not grow up with my grandparents around. Both sets of grandparents lived on another island and so we rarely if ever saw them with any regulated frequency. An occasional trip every few years was the extent of our visits. But, I did not love them any less. This was before Facetime, Skype, social media…shoot this was before email. I know that I am really showing my age on this one. It was so hard to keep connected.

Now another generation later, I find that my kids are growing up without the consistent presence of grandparents because of distance. The difference is, we try to say connected via phone calls, Facetime and any other technology that we can.
Every Christmas, I even send the grands a calendar of the kids. They have come to expect it and love receiving it every year. That’s why I “heart” companies like Shutterfly. They help keep families keep connected with so many personalized gift ideas.
This Grandparents Day consider perusing their site and purchasing one of these unique gift ideas.
