Today is my birthday. Over the last three to four years, I started to use the anniversary of the day I was born, as a time to reflect on my blessings, my short comings and well…life. So in keeping with that tradition, I have reflected on some things that I don’t mind sharing.
Another year has passed and I am extremely blessed. In reflection I can say at 34, this is what I know for sure:
I am not Going to Deny My Age
As a matter of fact, I will state my age proudly. I am 34 today. To deny my age is to deny my life, that I am so thankful to have. There are several people that have visited this life and had to leave too soon. I am sure that they wish they were still here. And although they are not…I am. My life is a blessing and because of that, my age is also a blessing.
There is No Better Time Than the Present
This is the reason I don’t like New Year’s Resolutions. I try to be better than last year, than last week, than yesterday just on general principle. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone. On Sunday (Mother’s Day 2012), my cousin died unexpectedly in an accident at 30 years old. I am sure that he had plans for the next day but, sadly he is not here. There is no better time than the present time.
My Time is Tremendously Valuable, And Yours is To
The older I get, the busier I seem to get. I do not wish that there were more hours in the day. But, sometimes I wish that there were less things to do. So you know what? At this point in my life, I don’t have time for people that don’t have time for me. Period. Unapologetically so.
Friends are Family that We Choose
I have chosen my family well. Both near and far, my genuine “peeps”, have been there for me through the most difficult times. So you know what? They are also my family.
I love to Eat. I love to Cook. I am a Foodie.

I love to eat and love to cook. Passionately so. I know that I cannot eat the same way that I did when I was 20. Shoot, I can’t even eat the same way that I did when I was 30. But, that is OK. I adjust, and I adapt. You should too. Slower metabolism has a way of creeping up on people. There are so many great foods to try and variations that are healthier too! Just don’t get on me if you see me having a triple chocolate shake once in a while. Really.
With God’s Grace, No One is Responsible for Making My Dreams Come True But Me
This is a big one and a hard pill to swallow for some. But the sooner we start embracing the fact that we are all responsible for this life we tread, the better off we will be. So I am taking full responsibility, I am “grabbing this life by the horns”.
What about you?

Very belated Happy Birthday, Lisa. I may be biased, but May is the best birthday month. 🙂
