Ingredients

- apples (peeled and chopped)
- firm pears (peeled and chopped)
- raisins -traditional brown raisins or golden raisins may be used
- fresh ginger root
- apple cider vinegar
- dark brown sugar- you can also try this recipe using sucanat, an unprocessed sugar.
- yellow onion
- ground cinnamon – using a whole cinnamon stick will give even more cinnamon flavor
- yellow mustard seeds
- caraway seed
- sea salt
Directions
Step 1: Peel, core and dice both apples and pears.

Step 2: Dice the onion.
Step 3: Peel and finely dice the ginger root.
Step 4: Combine all the ingredients and place them in a heavy pot.

Step 5: Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
Step 6: Make sure to stir occasionally.
Step 7: Once the chutney starts to simmer, cover and reduce to medium low heat. Cook covered or 25 minutes. Your house will smell really fragrant at this point. The mixture of fruit will become very soft.
Step 8: Uncover and cook for 15-20 minutes more.

Step 9: This chutney keeps in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.

Serving Suggestions
Serve with chicken, pork, in a sandwich, as part of a raw cheese platter or along with some raw yogurt.

Apple Pear Chutney
Ingredients
- 3-4 apples peeled and chopped
- 3 pears peeled and chopped
- 1//2 cup raisins
- 2 ” inch fresh ginger peeled and chopped
- 3/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 medium yellow onion (diced
- 1 tsp whole yellow mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp caraway seeds
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tsp sea salt
Instructions
- Peel, core, and dice the apples and pears.3-4 apples, 3 pears
- Finely dice the onions. Peel and mince the ginger.1 medium yellow onion, 2 ” inch fresh ginger
- Combine all ingredients in a heavy bottomed pot.3/4 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, 1 tsp whole yellow mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp caraway seeds, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1 1/2 tsp sea salt, 1//2 cup raisins
- Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Once simmering, cover and reduce heat to medium low and cook for 25 minutes. Make sure the pot is covered. The fruit will become soft.
- Uncover the pot and cook for 15 minutes more until thick and the liquid is mostly gone.
- Store in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.
