World Heart Day is on September 29th and I have one question to ask you, are you heart healthy? Heart is disease is the leading cause of death in women over 40 years old. Every year, over 400,000 women: nieces, aunts, friends, daughter’s, mothers die from the disease. That translates to 1 death every minute.
The thing is, heart disease is not imminent but it is preventable. As a health care professional, blogger, mother, I am joining SistertoSister.org in spreading the word. So join other women around the world and take the heart healthy pledge. Once you have signed the pledge, you can take a risk assessment and it will identify what changes you need to make to be heart healthy!
Here are some things that I do to stay heart healthy.
- I usually start the day with a bowl of old fashioned oats with almond milk with or without fruit/nuts
- Get moving at least 4 days a week
- A non-smoker
- Focus on eating mostly lean cuts of meat like chicken, pork, fish during the week. Beef is a delicious splurge!
- I am quite the green tea drinker -2 cup a day minimum 🙂
