All Natural Maple Marshmallows
These natural maple marshmallows are made with just 4 simple ingredients for a soft, fluffy treat without corn syrup or powdered sugar.

If you’re tired of all the junk that goes into making conventional or homemade marshmallows then you’ll love this homemade natural marshmallow recipe.
Benefits Of Making Your Own Natural Maple Marshmallows
Traditionally marshmallows used to be made with just a few simple ingredients. Fast forward to today, and even the marshmallows sold in your favorite organic grocery store can contain genetically modified and gut damaging inflammatory ingredients.
These homemade maple marshmallows are free of processed sugars and even contain gelatin for an extra collagen nutritional boost.
What Makes These Homemade Maple Marshmallows So Good
You may not think of homemade marshmallows as a health food, but when made the right way, marshmallows are a most definitely a nutritious health food.
While vegan marshmallows are a thing, commercial vegan marshmallow recipes, are not what I would consider healthy. Companies have traded out gelatin for genetically modified ingredients and inflammatory food substances.
Not only is collagen (in this case, in the form of unflavored gelatin) a healthy food, it is an ancestral food. Thankfully, you can make your own marshmallows at home, using all natural ingredients. Consider enjoying your homemade all natural marshmallows as a mix-in chocolate coconut ice cream or a cup of hot cacao.
When To Make All Natural Marshmallows
These are the perfect clean treat to cook with your kids, when you want a sweet pick me up, during a snow day, or when you just need a collagen boost.
Equipment
- hand mixer or stand mixer with whisk attachment
- parchment paper
- large bowl
- medium saucepan
- 8×8 baking dish (for 2″ thick marshmallows) or 7×11 pan for less thick marshmallows
Ingredients
- lukewarm water
- organic grass fed gelatin – real gelatin made from grass fed, grass finished bone is great for gut health
- pure maple syrup – as a natural sweetener
- vanilla extract – used to add real natural vanilla flavor
Directions
Step 1: Line a 8×8 baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Step 2: Sprinkle gelatin evenly over water to a small pot and set aside for 5 minutes.
Step 3: Add maple syrup and vanilla to a large mixing bowl and mix.
Step 4: Once the gelatin has bloomed, place it on medium-high heat just until the gelatin mixture is about to come to a simmer. You just want to dissolve the gelatin. This is your opportunity to get rid of any lumps in the mixture.

Step 5: Remove from heat and pour into maple syrup and vanilla mixture.
Step 6: Start mixing using an electric hand-held mixer or using a stand mixer with attachment on medium high.
Step 7: Mixing will take between 10-12 minutes. Once you just reach stiff peaks, turn off the marshmallow mixture.

Step 8: Transfer quickly to a prepared baking dish using a rubber spatula.
Step 9: Move as quickly and evenly as possible.

Step 10: Place the prepared pan in the freezer for 30 minutes.
Step 11: After chilling, remove from the freezer cut into desired sizes and piece. If you like your marshmallows thick and fluffy, you get a better result by using a 8×8 pan. That will give you about 12 (2×2) squares upon cutting.
step 12: Enjoy as a healthy treat or along a side of hot cocoa.
How to Store Natural Marshmallows At Room Temperature (Preferred Method)
- After dusting with arrowroot starch, store in an airtight container (away from sunlight) in a cool dry place.
- Make sure to check everyday to ensure that they aren’t getting sticky.
- Should keep for 2-3 weeks.
How to Store Leftover Homemade Maple Marshmallows (Refrigerator)
- If you have any leftover marshmallows, first coat them well in a bowl of arrowroot starch or tapioca starch to prevent sticking. You can use other things besides arrowroot powder, but I like using arrowroot powder because it’s natural and doesn’t alter the flavor of the marshmallows.
- Make sure the sides of the marshmallows are all coated to prevent any sticking.
- Place the marshmallows in an airtight container stored in the refrigerator.
- Check the marshmallows every couple of days to make sure that they are not sticking together.
- Let them come to room temperature before serving.
- Using this method to store the marshmallow should keep them fresh for about a week.
Serving Suggestions
While people often just think of hot chocolate, there are other ways that homemade marshmallows can be enjoyed.
Serve alone or floating on top of a cup of molasses milk, or turmeric chai latte. Marshmallows also taste wonderful mixed in into homemade ice cream.
