Put Away Christmas Ornaments

“Out with the old and in with the new”… Christmas is long gone so it’s time to start thinking about putting away those Christmas ornaments. I personally leave my decorations up until Three Kings Day, which falls on January 6th. But, whether you “take down Christmas” on December 26 or January 6th, ornament containers make taking down Christmas decorations easy. You can get them from any department store. This container below is from Amazon.com.

Once you’ve put those ornaments away, you have to be able to recall just where you’ve put them. Sortly is an organizing app that can assist with keeping a virtual inventory of stored items, collections, decorations and more. One’s scope of use of the app is really only limited by your imagination. I’ve already started to use this free app to help organize seasonal items, toys and clothing that I intend on donating and I’m not done yet. The premium version of the app will give you access to the Sortly cloud and keep your virtual inventory in safe keeping. Not too mention, you can take pictures of the items before storage for easy recall later.

Clean Your Closets

Most of us have items in our closet that really shouldn’t be there. Clothes that are too big, things that are too small…sometimes it’s just a matter of altered styles and preferences. Get rid of clothes you no longer “love” for one reason or another. Do the same thing for your children’s closets too. It will not only free up time in getting ready but, you will gain lots of space too. By the way, cleaning your closets is an easy way to earn some extra cash. I use a company called ThredUp, to sell and buy previously “loved” stylish clothes from the convenience of my home. Make sure you watch the video link at the bottom of this post to find out more about how it works.

Minimize the Paper

Like you, paper can be a huge trouble spot in my home. Minimize paper clutter by opting out. You can opt out for a period of five years or opt out permanently from credit card, magazine offers and more! Doesn’t that sound delightful? I also recommend an app called ZipLoop, which makes organizing paper receipts pretty simple.

Get a Handle on Kitchen Clutter

Kitchen clutter can manifest in so many different ways. Cracked, shattered, broken dishware and glasses have no place in your kitchen! Get those things out and don’t look back. Your home deserves nice things that compliment your style and of course your family’s budget. While you are minimizing clutter in your kitchen, don’t forget that food can clutter the kitchen too! Be especially aware of your shopping habits at grocery membership warehouses and clubs. Buying lots of pickles just because you got a great deal is a bad idea if no one ever eats them. Click on my video link on “Let Talk Live“, to see my other recommendations for minimizing kitchen clutter.

Tame the Toy Monster

Toy clutter can get really overwhelming, really quickly… especially when kids are really young. Go through your kids toys periodically and remove items that they have outgrown or no longer use. Donate gently used items to Goodwill. Develop a sorting and organizing system that works for you and family.

Using even one of these simple tips to organize your home will give you a great start to a marvelous 2015 ahead! For more simple tips on how to organize your home, watch my home organizations tips segment on Let’s Talk Live.

Organizing is constantly evolving isn’t it? I suppose the best thing is too move and evolve right along with it because if not, it can get so overwhelming.

Solid tips here. I know it’s already March when I’m posting this comment, but I went to a friends house and she STILL had Christmas decorations out!!! Made me remember the tip here to put them up right away and keep them organized.
