I went to an open house today. For kindergarten. I can’t believe that time is moving so fast. The school seemed organized, children were well mannered, and staff knowledgeable and caring. But I was still cautious. Truth be told, we still haven’t decided if our daughter will be attending private school or if homeschooling is in our future. But, that’s beside the point. Like any other parent, I just can’t believe that the years flew by that fast. Quite frankly, I have so many emotions racing through me, that I am one sappy commercial away from a deluge of water streaming down my face.
However, even as I navigate this new territory, I am certain that my daughter will receive the education she needs without regards to things like gender, accessibility, sanitation, educational materials and environment.
When I was a little girl, I never gave a second thought about if I would be able to read a book, learn in a classroom, or if I could safely walk to school. Education was accessible and expected.
Unfortunately, not every child is that privileged. In several non US countries around the world, there are barriers to education. That’s why I am excited about the IKEA Soft Toys for Education campaign. For every soft toy purchased from November 9th 2014 to January 3, 2015, the Ikea Foundation will donate one $1 back to children’s education by way of Unicef and Save the Children.
Last year, the IKEA Foundation raised over 13. 6 million dollars (with over 1 million dollars raised in the US). Since it’s inception, the Ikea Foundation has contributed to educational programs and initiatives in Mozambique, South Africa, Romania, Ethiopia, and Indonesia. Continued support will make way for those educational programs and so much more.
In addition, there are some new heroes soft toys this year, so choose your cute pick. Donations from the purchase of these soft toys will help with things like the purchase of educational materials, improving school attendance and providing sanitary water and toilet facilities. So this holiday season, give the gift of education with the IKEA Soft Toys for Education campaign. Children everywhere are counting on it.
