Who ever knew that winter could be such a drag. I mean, once you get over Christmas and New Year’s, there is still well over 2 months of dark, cold, still…winter. The constant cold temperatures and lack of sun can take an ugly emotional turn for many. The winter blues.
Here are 5 tricks for beating the winter blues.
A little bit of fragrance can go a long way. Scents like lavender and vanilla are soothing, while scents like citrus and florals are fresh and clean. Candles, potpourri and incense are all great ways to bring some fragrance into your home. One fragrance I am going crazy for these days is Glade plug-ins Virgin Islands. If you’ve been reading here a while, you probably already know why.
Sunshine is really hard to come by during the winter. But, for the few hours that the sun is out, take advantage my taking a walk outside (if it’s not too chilly) or you can sit near a window sill in your home. There is a sky light in my bathroom. Sometimes I just sit in the tub, fully clothed and let the sunlight hit my face. That helps boost my mood and my energy every single time.
Next time you feel like the winter blues are kicking in, try buying some flowers for yourself. Most grocery stores sell flowers these days, so it really does not have to be anything elaborate. But of course, if you want it to be…why not? You deserve it. Flowers are beautiful. They smell great and people deserve to get them while they are still living.
Like Bob Marley said, “One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain”. OK, maybe that’s not exactly how things work but, I think Bob had the right idea. Just select your genre, go with something uptempo and feel those winter blues slip away.
Go on a Trip
When all else fails, if the sunshine is not coming to you, them hop on a plane and go find it. Nothing re-energizes like some time in a tropical locale, don’t you think?
