I hate clutter. I mean absolutely hate it. The problem is, clutter always seems to find me. It’s a constant battle especially when you have little kids at home. While I do periodically go through my daughter’s toy collection and purge regularly, the actual size of her toys have grown over the years. Not having a concrete system was costing me clutter and sanity.
Everything is not small and cute like it use to be when she was younger. Now, toys are bigger, clunkier and for some reason come with a convenient carrying case. Initially, we had one cute storage box to keep all the toys from view. But, we quickly lost that battle and it turned into this:
|Unorganized toy clutter. It started out being organized with that square Parisian box but then quickly morphed into something much more.|
I finally found a solution that did not require me to be too crafty and fit in perfectly with the decor of our “sun room”. This organizing system is from Pottery Barn kids. They have all sorts of great organizing solutions for kids’ spaces.
I love the fact that is has all of these great large spaces for different sized toys, books and more.
We purchased the baskets and placards separately (also from Pottery Barn). It’s a great convenience having signs that you can change whenever you please.
The key to keeping toy clutter under control is having a system the works. Sorting the toys and games is a tremendous help. My daughter is three. Categories like balls, small toys, arts-crafts and puzzles work for us right now. Large bulk toys were placed in the last row of the organizer.
Not only does this system look great and keep the clutter under control but, my daughter loves knowing where to find whatever toys she needs.
Her books and other reading material was placed on the top shelf. We typically help her to access those and we can read to her whatever she pleases.
Just in case you want to know what we did with that cute Parisian box that could not contain the clutter…
It now houses all of her plush toys and gifts.
